I have just made Nigella's dense choc cake and have made it with self raising flour instead of plain. ::)
It also has bicarb of soda in.
I have put it in the oven and hope it will be OK.
It is meant to be for my mother's birthday tomorrow - do you think it will be edible or should I start again?
I hope your oven ceiling is high enough :o :o :o :o

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
It hasn't reached the top of the oven yet ;D
Will it taste the same though or will the bicarb and the raising agents in the self raising make it taste odd.
I can't really take my mother a revolting cake round on her birthday ;D
You wont notice any difference Tim as chocolate is a strong flavour but it may be lighter than usual. ;D
I often use both, especially with blueberry american pancakes.
It'll be lovely just more light than dense - good luck

Thanks for all your replies.... and reassurance.
It looks and smells good...so tomorrow I will cut the top off, taste it and if it is all well I will top with my morello cherry preserve and cream ;D
If it tastes awful then it will be a victoria sponge instead ;D
Sounds lovely tin, save us a bit and I'll pop round for a cuppa! ;D ;D
