Title: WEED IDENTIFICATION PLEASE
Post by: Duke Ellington on August 01, 2009, 16:53:23
Does anyone know what weed this is? Its an annual weed and grows to about 1/12 foot tall.  It has quite a shiny leaf and its about to flower

Has it a pink flower and smells lovely. We used to call it musk.

I think I will have to let you know on the colour of the flower but it does look like the flowers are going to be pink.

Try looking at Saponaria. It looks a bit like the plant I have growing as a herbaceous perennial.

Agree with Toadspawn - looks very much like Soapwort. Watch it when it seeds - it's almost become a weed on my garden.

It smells divine though. If you have the room its worth growing. We got ours from a small root by the river in N. Wales

Thanks all for your help:) I will have to get rid of it because if I am not careful it will take over my vegetable beds. Its creeping in from the neighbouring plot.

One of it's nick names is "Bouncing Bet" because of that habit of spraeding sideways...  :-\
