Very pleased though, I won the scarecrow comp, and highly commended for my produce box, so all was not lost.

Yes Shirl but think of all the lovely people you will be meeting ;).

Well I'm not one to boast but me and ower Tone was invited but declined the offer ;D ;D ;D
If it were closer I would have come.........I own a large garden.... but yesterday I went to a lottie open
day 2 towns away..... and it was b loody fantastic.........first to arrive and was the last to leave it only has 46 plots 22 full the rest half plots....the banter from the off was fantastic the knowledge well folks ranged from 21 up to the old dear of 92 (had to keep hiding behind the bean rigs she was taking quite
a shine to me :o :o) but heres the hard part.......only 1 plot has been vacated in the last year the average is 2 a year and they have a 10 yes ten year waiting list..........the home baking was out of this
world .....dug me own spuds up from 1 plot........walked 2 plots up dug me own assorted veg.....each
plot holder wanting me to take more I may add..........payment for it was miniscule so gave a tenner
donation to the funds..and threw another at the raffle............not only were the folks a fountain of knowledge but the plots themselves with a lot of ingenious ideas made from everyday objects have sent me brain (I still have one nearing 50) into overdrive ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
BOTTOM LINE.............................................
IF YOUR CLOSE ENOUGH GET YOUR BUTT ALONG TO SADDADS ONE PRONTO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am number 15 on the waiting list for allotments which are 12 miles away from me, so probably about a 7 year wait. AM having to make do with my raised boxes in the garden for now. Am campaigning the council for more allotments nearer to home and they emailed me today to say they wanted to discuss with me on the phone. HOpefully that sounds promising!!!
I can't promise we are quiet that good Jaggythistle... but we try... :)
You could have alook at our developing website...
www.littleoverlaneallotments.org.uk
I assure you there are no naughty pictures on our website... ::)

Your site looks great, bit too far away for me but look forward to seeing photos.

You know, I'm not sure... I'll have to look it up on our website... ;D
Have I missed something. ??? :-\ ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Why hasn't anyone told me ;).
Didn't I mention it then? ::)
(David, hope you don't mind me adding our allotment open day to your thread.)
These are the details:-
Walsall Road Allotments in Perry Barr, Birmingham B42 2LR on Saturday, August 15th, 12noon till 3pm.
Fresh produce for sale, plants, cut flowers, home-made cakes, bric-a-brac, tombola, games, bee keeping, swan rescue, Cats Protection League, classic cars, archery, woodturning demo and sales, refreshments.
Look round the site, see the not-very-scary scarecrows, see the prize-winning plots, chat to plotholders, chat to me!
We are keeping our fingers crossed that it doesn't rain, but if it does we do have plenty of cover.
All proceeds to Macmillan Cancer Support and the County Air Ambulance.
Of course not... just come in as it's raining... still have 200 onions to lift before they wash away... :-[
Nice website saddad. What date was your open day again?? Would have loved to come - the inlaws are in Newhall, near Swadlincote, and OH has rellys in Derby. Unfortunately have got other plans for that weekend - another year perhaps. Good luck with the Day!
You're welcome if you are in town any weekend, if we are...
1st Sunday in June and September... for the NGS each year.. :)

We had such a lovely sunny morning but it's rained this afternoon. Good luck with your onions.
Got them in... just got @30 to lift from another plot. They are from seed so not quite ready yet, and it's a drier plot (at the top of the site!)
Don't forget Betty's Open day next Sat...
and ours first Sunday in September.. :)
Nudge ;D

Our neighbours at Thornbridge Avenue allotments are having their Open day tomorrow. They have theirs at the beginning of Allotment Week and we have ours at the end. We had a day without rain today, hope it holds like this for the next 8 days.
Do you know the times and a postcode Betty in case anyone wants to go... :)

It starts at 11:00 and I think it's on till about 3:00. I don't know the postcode but they are on Beeches Road, Great Barr, Birmingham just near the motorway bridge.
Bump...
At the start of National Allotments week... :)
Just come back from the Open Day at Thornbridge Avenue. The weather is really beautiful today and there were lots of people there.
Hope it's good for us next Saturday.
Don't forget Betty's next Saturday and ours on Sunday the 6th...
Like we'd let you... ::)
It's our last planning meeting tomorrow night where we (hopefully) sort out any last-minute problems.
We are very lucky that our neighbouring allotment site (Thornbridge Avenue) are really helpful and lend us some of their stuff so tomorrow we are collecting 'Pluck the Chicken' and the tombola drum. Then the poor unsuspecting plotholder who has 'offered' to run the Pluck the Chicken has the lovely job of putting all its feathers in place.
See you next Saturday Betty ;D

Just checked out your website Saddad, it looks great and lots of useful info, well done to you all!
We've even had to rope in the scarecrows to help advertise ours.

Love it... might make it for 1pm... the previous engagement might be over by 12... :)
Can I borrow him for our Open Day? We always need somebody to stand the gate... ;D
Did I mention..... ::)
Apparently Pippy is going to bring us some herb cuttings... :)

We are borrowing extra gazebos Shirl but fingers crossed that the showers will be late as you say.
I'm in a state of last-minute panic at the moment. There is so much to do. Yesterday Dave (chairman) and I put up all the bunting so the site is looking quite festive. It's amazing how even some of our plotholders don't seem to realise that the summer fayre is tomorrow. When one of them saw the bunting he asked what it was for ::)
Lets hope for the best tomorrow Betty. I'm getting quite used to the fact that it rains when I go anywhere. Hope you have some nice food cos we ain't havin any lunch before we come. I have come to the conclusion Betty that some folk just go up to their plot and don't bother about anything else. Wish we were on your site then we could have helped with the stuff. See you tomorrow Betty whatever the weather.
hope the sun shines for you and you all have a great day ;D
OOOERR Manics we will. Wish you and Ray could come but its too far away.
Good luck with the open day, I'm sure it will be a roariing success :)

Shirl, we were going to have a MASSIVE bbq run by a plotholder who is in the Scouts and would have brought everything.........but his son gave him a surprise holiday which means he misses the SF. He was in two minds whether to cancel his holiday, poor man! There is a big cake stall, so if you and Tone have sweet tooths you'll be ok. Otherwise, we can do toast ....
See you tomorrow,

We've had to employ a team from Scaricor to patrol the site and make sure none of their blokes disappear. ;)
Seriously, if I'd had more time I would have made one for you.
See you later,
Betty

Thank you so much Sparkly, good luck with yours tomorrow.

For anyone coming to our Summer Fayre today from the M6 and down the A34, I keep forgetting to say that Church Road is closed.
There is a turning just AFTER the crematorium (just BEFORE) Church Road, called Stadium Way. It goes to the Alexander athletics stadium and if you follow the fence around you will come to our allotments.
If you miss Stadium way, just follow the diversion signs.
Flippin' roadworks!!! >:(
I'll bring a poster down for ours... :)
Hope that we can find our way in coming along from the other end of Church Rd
Just back from Betty's Open Day... photo's to follow. Had a great time.. ;D

Well sun shone for our Betty's open day and we had a lovely time. Forgot to take the camera with us but no doubt Saddad will provide the pics. Sorry we missed you Dave and Alison but we couldn't stay any longer cos we had to get to Brownhills to see me Mom this afternoon. Hope there was something left for you ;D
Is that a meercat Shirl ?
Just put them in a new thread...
"Who's the dummy"... ;D
Yep it sure is. I won it on the save a swan stall. I could have had a swan but I know that ower Tone loves meercats ;D

Glad you all had a great day, love the Meercat, thats what they call me at work because I'm always on tiptoe looking around at everyone. ;D ;D ;D
Phew, what a relief, it didn't rain!
It was a fine day apart from a little bit of cloud just as we opened but it turned out sunny afterwards.
Lovely to meet Shirl, Tone, David and Alison again and to have enough time to spend with them.
I was there from 8 this morning till 5 this afternoon but don't feel too exhausted. I suppose because I was enjoying myself so much....
Thanks everyone for your good wishes, I'm sure that's what helped to keep the rain away. ;)
glad you all had a good day ;D
