I'm so pleased with these little peppers :) I've got some in pots inside the greenhouse and some in the soil outside and have been picking them for the past couple of weeks. There are lots of peppers on the plants but the plants themselves are quite small.
The seed is from Wilkinson and is half price at the moment.

Might look out for that one Betty.. mine are growing well but are still all green... :)
They look great - been looking for a variety like that as the ones I grow are long and take an age to ripen.
They look wonderful. :) Thanks for posting a pic of the packet too, we don't have Wilkinson's in Scotland, but I thought the packet looked a Fothergills-esque shape and I think I've found them (http://www.mr-fothergills.co.uk/catalogue/product/2871-1/).

Yes, that's them! The photo is exactly the same one, and the description is almost word for word.

I couldn't believe that they would go red so soon, even outdoors.

I'm growing long ones too (seed saved from some bought at Lidl) and they are nowhere near ripening yet.

Thanks for the confirmation. :) How are the outdoor variety fairing compared to those cosseted in the greenhose?
I'm growing these too, got them from Wilkos, my first one ripened a good while ago, can't remember exactly when, but I posted the picture on here somewhere.
Very good pepper I recommend it. I wish I'd grown more of them.

The greenhouse ones are ripening more quickly, but outdoor ones are not far behind. I'll take a photo tomorrow IF it isn't raining!
My first one was 12th July. Outdoors, in a wet and cloudy July too :o
Amazing.
I'm going to be using this cultivar in some breeding projects methinks.
Looks like Mr F is about to recieve more of my hard earned moolah. :D Thanks all.

If I save the seeds from it, will the plants be the same?

As long as you are not growing any other peppers. If you are, it depends what you are growing.

I'm growing the long sweet pepper and chillies but I bought another packet today as they were half price so it won't matter if I don't save any seeds.
i think i will also look for this on at wilkos, it looks prolific.

Thanks sholls - We dont have a wilkos anywhere near and I couldn't fined them on the website. Ker-ching!
Seeds, Squash? Not listed as F1 so OK?
A little like 'Sunnybrook' - Real Seeds.
To start our collection of ultra-early peppers, Ben spent ages trawling through the descriptions of the seedbanks of the USDA pepper collection.
He was looking for old varieties of peppers that seemed to be repeatedly described as early and productive. From this, we made a shortlist and so started off our pepper trials.
One thing to come out of this was 'Sunnybrook'. It is a very early bell pepper - trading size for speed but still very productive and tasty. Its about 1/2 the size of the big bells you get in the supermarkets, but with many times more flavour, and much, much earlier.
Released in 1965, Sunnybrook is consistently among the earliest of our peppers, and the plants are covered in green bell peppers by mid-summer, which rapidly turn red.
We always grow lots for our own use!

Another variety to add to my list for next year ;D
I had been looking for a good variety, and was struggling to find one that didn't need a greenhouse to ripen. So thanks for the post, and to Sholl's for the link.
Squash - your long peppers, are they outside as well? As I've looked at these (they are the only ones I buy in the summer) but read they need a greenhouse. So I'll be interested to hear how you get on
Tim - thanks for the link and info to realseeds - as ever they do seem to come up trumps!

To those of you who grow these outside...how do you overwinter them?
Is that you in the picture Betty?..if so what on earth are you holding?

No, I'm growing the long peppers in the greenhouse. I was a bit late sowing the seeds because I forgot ::) so they are not as advanced as they normally would be. I have had brilliant peppers off them in the past, equal to the ones I bought from Lidl and saved the seeds from.

I don't overwinter them. I have thought of doing this but never bothered because they grow so easily from seed.

In my profile? Yes, that's a pic of me holding a Tromba d'Albegna squash. I was invited to have a table at the Gardeners Weekend show in Birmingham a couple of years ago so I took some squash along. There was a lot of interest in them with quite a few "Ooh er missus, what a whopper"-type remarks!

I don't. Not any more. But you can lift them prune the tops and roots hard and place in a pot which you bring indoors.
Thanks Amphibian, treat them like a chili?

Indeed. They're the same species.

Thanks for the info, I thought that might be the answer. It looks like I need to try and sort some kind of mini greenhouse either that or continue buying them :(
I took this today. This plant is being grown in the greenhouse but came outside for the photo :)

They were in Brownhills. Have to wait for Sutton to reduce theirs
I love the idea of a very bermused Wilko's stock controller being left bemused by why a half price packet of pepper seeds has flown of the shelves nationwide.

LOL, there could be a world-wide shortage next year, all because of A4A ;)
Well I've got mine... ;D
I got mine (at full price. :( ) from Mr Fothergills, they were deliverd today... roughly 5 minutes before I received the jiffy bag I got an email saying that due to unexpected demand my order may be delayed by 10-14 days. :D I wonder why? :P
Mine carry on producing, I'm picking about 4-5 every visit.
This cultivar is one of those gems you come across sometimes, it really is a marvel. We've had such bad weather too.
Someday I'll stop going on about the merits of this variety, but it won't be any day soon.
Maybe, next year, just for fun, we should orchestrate a synchronised sowing? ;)
I bought a packet or two last year but cannot locate for the life of me....can't see on Marshalls webpage...do you think these are similar??? I want to try outdoor growing :)
http://www.thompson-morgan.com/seeds1/product/275/1.html
I don't think those would be exactly the same as they are mixed colours.
I have some seeds left, would you like me to send you some?
If I can send smething back :) will pm you!!
