Title: Chili pepper - drooping leaves
Post by: nittynora on July 26, 2009, 09:03:16

This morning our only chili plant (Anaheim) has very floppy/droopy leaves.... looks very sick.  Has anyone seen this/knows how to fix it??

Details....

It's on the kitchen windowsill (near some basil), about 15" tall, in a deep pot of multipurpose.

There are about 10 embryo flowers, two of which are out.

Have been watering little and often, trying now to drench the compost (as I read that chili's don't like this).  Gave some tomato feed a few days ago.

Have been checking for bugs etc, have picked off the odd greenfly, have not seen "bronzing" or tiny red mites

Very confused  ??? - any help gratefully received.

Thank you

I am no expert but I have read that letting them get too wet isn't good for them. Ilet mine just get slightly dry then water. They also need half the strength of tomato feed than toms.

I would say it needs extra water. Maybe the pot is too small for it now.

Give it some water and see if it picks up later on.

It may need some feed too as it is fruiting.

I am tending to go along with Purple Heather particularly regarding pot size!

Carefully remove it from its pot and see if it is pot bound.

Another thing is they are 'weather tempremental'

We have had a mixed bag of weather lately e.g. bad light, coolness, and very bright light any one or all off which can create a physiological disorder.

I find consistant  'bright shade (if you know what I mean) i.e. not too dark or light with an even temperature is best.

Thank you for the replies....  :)

The plant had a small drink this morning but has not perked up yet.  Can see quite thick roots through the holes at the bottom of the pot so shal pop into a bigger one and see what happens.......
