Lovely are they in greenhouse or outside.

Lovely are they in greenhouse or outside.
Outside in a raised bed which was a compost pile last year and hasn't disintegrated yet.
Have not looked at mine recently. Though it was rather soon to expect any results. Though I have a huge blue hubbard squash already.

That's a winter keeper, isn't it? I've never eaten one. Would it be similar to butternut?
My Harrier F1 butternut squash plants are only about 10" wide, and with no fruit on them neither. :( :(
Just looked it up. Actually Blue Hubbard a type of pumpkin curcurbita maxima. Butternut Squash is curcurbita moschata. Never grown Blue Hubbard before. Saw the packet of seeds and my seedaholic tendencies took over. Got my BNS in a seed swap.
The Blue Hubbard is an enormous plant, BNS taking up a little less room. I have also got Trompeta D'Albenga that is also a moschata type. Can be eaten as a courgette. Will also store but not as long as a BNS. But is much more prone to producing fruit. Tastes better young.
Wow Grannieannie, how on earth did you do that?! What type are they?
Mine (Waltham) are supposed to be quick growing but havent even flowered yet.
I have three butternut squash plants, they're the ones from the BBC's dig it programme. They are each around a square yard in size with no flowers yet.
We've got six of the BBC ones, in addition to all the others I put in. They are all thriving, I think we're going to set up a stall selling BN Squash soup ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Those are seeds from a squash our friend grew that we ate last Fall. He said it has no name that he knows of and just saves the seed yearly.
It may not be early for squash- I'm in Newark Delaware USA, last Spring frost date here is May 6, elevation121 ft, latitude 394106 N, Longitude 0754436 W. The raised bed I'm sure helps immensely with a low fence that helps keep off a breeze.
I have so far:
3 Waltham butternuts on two plants
1 Howden on two plants
3 Baby Blue hubbard on one plant
and....
6 Shark fin on one plant.
That one plant though is HUGE and has swamped my other squash, stretched across my allotment and is now climbing my beans at one end and my compost heap at the other, the largest fruit is already bigger than a rugby ball. This plant is a thug of extraordinary vitality.

They're not even big enough to sit on the potty yet but they look like they have better pedigree than mine. :P
Have a look at my babies. 8)

Aren't the rampant growing squash fun?!
Just to see how far and fast they can grow each day is a hoot.
Our trombone squash has climbed to the top of a holly tree already and will be impossible to pick without being scarred for life so I'm just letting it run for the sheer joy of being a squash.
Shhh, don't shout but I have some set for the first time ever.... :)
