Title: Peas and maggots
Post by: Bjerreby on July 15, 2009, 18:52:50
I've just finished harvesting this year's peas. I grew Onward and Hurst Green Shaft. Generally, I am satisfied with the results, but I notice that the Hurst Green Shaft had a few pea moth maggots, while Onward was completely clean.

Do any of you find a particular pea variety more vulnerable to pea moth maggots?

I seem to get them in all my peas, ah well, it's added protein.

Sowing time is the main factor... by happy chance we have done very well so far ( :-X ) but still have several sowings to harvest..  :-\

can you tell me how big the pea moths are?
is it feasible to net against them?

I also like to tag onto this thread as well.
My peas didn't get totally munched, just a few nibbles here and there and a few maggoty things in them when I opened the pods

Bjerreby - I found it was the Onward that had a few maggots in them?

Saddad - timings - early or late? cos I sowed most of mine quite early?

Thanks

Both, early and late... but it is very subjective... local conditions rather than just calendar specific... very much hit and miss. As I said so far this year very little damage but several sowings to go yet...  :-X
