Title: what I did in my week's holiday
Post by: aquilegia on October 04, 2004, 12:19:29
Not much gardening was done last week. We had a lovely weekend weather-wise at the start of the week, but other plans kept me out of the garden, until the early evening on sunday which was spent sat on the bench watching the fluffy clouds roll by.

A couple of drizzly days followed, which saw me mostly changing into my gardening clothes and running outside just in time for it to start raining. The late afternoons, strangely, cleared up a bit, so Mr Aqui and I did manage to sort and chop for compost all 15 sacks of garden waste from our neighbour. (The compost bin almost had the addition of the tip of Mr Aqui's finger again. He almost chopped it off last holiday when we were doing the same. It's the one that he actually did chop the end off a few years back, but stuck it back on, so it's pretty numb now!)

I managed to plant about a quarter of my baby periennials that I started from seed this year and a few cuttings. But there are still loads left.

And all the tomatoes, well the few that were not rapidly turning brown, have been picked and the plants disposed of.

The rest of the week was pretty p*ssy. I got all stroppy because I couldn't garden, so decided to do some baking instead. We made bread and jam tarts, with the jam I'd made the previous week. (photos to follow!) both were yummy. Homemade bread with homemade jam is the best! Another rainy day saw us baking a spicey squash pie (made with the leftovers of the previous night's pasta sauce) and some choc chip, cinnamon, walnut and ginger american muffins. If this is going to be my pattern for coping with a winter of not gardening, I'd better sign up for EJ's aerobics class!

Ooh and I forgot about the bargain of the week: I found a copy of Bob Flowerdew's No-Work Garden down from £19.99 to £7. :D

Glad you had a nice(ish) time off work and nice to see you back. I think its nice just to do what you want for a few days sometimes rather than the every day routine that you get stuck in.
