Hi Scousers, I keep looking in here but nobodys posting anything about sunflowers, the four year old has got one going in the back garden, its only about four feet high but the flower has just opened, shes over the moon with it and wants to water it every night. ;D ;D ;D

I'm rather jealous. :(
My sunflowers were going great guns until my *insert expletive* vindictive neighbour sprayed them with a mysterious (killing) substance. Keep the pretty pictures coming, they're actually cheering me up. 8)
nice one, flighty..I'm waiting to see which one the large one is ;D
they're all from self saved seed
the first is about 6 and a half feet tall and the second is approx 4 ft tall, with more to come.

I was very late sowing mine this year and they are only about 9" high nowso hope they have time to mature.
Havent worked out how to stake mine properly so have lost the tallest ones!
Perennial ones are growing really well, can see them taking over the flowerbed if I'm not careful.[attachment=4]
Didn't know you could get perennial sunflowers. Tell me more!

These are my violet sunflowers, they range from 3'-5' high and have about 6-8 flowers/heads on each and come free with a Gardeners World Magazine.

http://flightplot.wordpress.com/2009/07/23/sunflowers/
this one opened today, i got the seed from my neighbourand he can't remember the name of the variety. i think its a cut flower variety as its only about 4ft high and has a lot more heads to open.
i noticed this afternoon that this one actually turns to face the sun as the day progresses, yes!!!

Not a giant but getting tall...
The T-shirt is the "I'd rather be down the allotment"...
I've got a border of giants, tallest measured today was 10' 3"......I'd mixed up my saved seeds and thought these were the little red ones, to be about 4'. They've overshaded my plot, rustle so much I keep thinking someone is there, but they at least have provided support for my outdoor toms. Should manage to feed a fair few birds this winter!

These are along the main avenue into the site... looking good for the Open Day
Lovely, Dave. Mine are only about 4ft high so hope I get some flowers before autumn sets in!
We were a couple of weeks too late to see them at their best in France - still the odd field though- lovely!
