Are there any food items that can be safely harvested from a simple pond in my lottie which is now leaning practically and ethically towards the principles of permaculture
I have a mind to create a sump (pond) where all my run-off can collect but its gotta be productive.
Any ideas!
Dax
Only watercress Im afraid because with water culture you need too much nitrogen in the water for the plants to grow and its too much for creatures to live in.
The fresh watercress is lovely and spicy though ;D
Carp? (seriously) ;)
Isn't there a problem with liver fluke in watercress, or is that only in streams?
lol Yeh you can eat carp but they taste 'muddy' and are full of tiny bones so you would have to treat it as you would a pike before you cook it.
Liver flukes are generally from river wcress, the easiest way to get wcress in your pond is to buy a bag from a supermarket and just chuck it in. That way you know its clean.
I did once toy with the idea of making a stream/river and growing my own trout. ;D
