Title: Vista Updates
Post by: Kepouros on July 06, 2009, 18:16:20
I run Vista Home Premium, and it is set to warn me of updates but for me to decide on installing them.  Recently I have been getting daily warnings of two "Important" updates which I must install.  These are:

1.Update to .NET framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 for the .NET Framework Assistant
2. Office XP Service Pack 3

I am not on or in any sort of Net as far as I know, and have no wireless connection whatever, so is No. 1 really important to me.

I have Windows Office, which I use, and which I bought for my old computer which ran XP Home. So is No.2 a necessary update for my Windows Office, or is it in fact XP Service Pack 3 which they are offering me because I was registered for XP on my old computer.

Kepouros,

Install them both. The update system checks your PC to see which of the current updates are applicable to you. This has nothing to do with you as a person and what you may have had on other PCs. It has detected that you have these two items of software on your system and therefore wants you to update them.

Fyi ... .NET is the name given to the software development toolset which replaced Visual Basic. It is not necessarily related to the "Net", ie the Internet in any specific sense, more an unfortunate choice of name by Microsoft.
