Title: Potatoes: Late earthing still ok?
Post by: Hector on July 02, 2009, 19:40:52
I have some Valor and some International Kidny in a large pannelled container (think giant compost bin) I have about 8 inches of leaves to earth up BUT the IK's are flowering...should I go ahead and earth both varieties up...or am I too late with the kidneys?

Earth them  up anyway.  If it doesn`t increase the crop it will still prevent any tubers forming near the surface from `greening`

Many thanks, much appreciated. One last thing...in containers do you top up/earth up with compost?

I grow all my potatoes in containers and only ever top up with compost. They always turn out really yummy  ;D

That's interesting! Do you mean well rotted grass clippings? If it's fresh ones Mr Hector may be forced to kill me...as I just sent him to get more compost as I finished ours  ::)

ps ordered two mre Daleks from the council...resistance is futile
