I have read rocket potatoes are only suitable for chips is this right! or can you use them as salad potatoes? if so how long do do you boil them for ? Mine are quite big in size is this normal for rocket considering they are supposed to be first Earlie's.(first time i have grown them)
I don`t know where you read it, but it`s nonsense. They`re best used steamed (pressure cooking is better still), and once cooled are an excellent salad potato. They are no earthly use for chips - the only First Early I would use for chips is Sharpes Express, which has a particularly high dry matter content and a very good flavour.
You can boil or steam them and I've been baking the bigger ones in the microwave. I don't do chips so can't help there. They don't take very long to boil but it depends on how big the chunks are. Keep testing them with a fork. If you wanted smaller potatoes, you could have dug them up earlier.
I found that boiling them was a bit of disaster, the skins came away and they were very watery tasting, so I tried microwaving them with no liquid at all as per another thread. Brilliant! The flavour was much improved too.
I steam mine for thirty minutes and they are cut quite small, some of the bigger ones I have chipped and they are quite nice. :P ;D ;D ;D
boil when small, and also love them as chips!
