I have a lovely apple tree. I think it is Discovery. Has been producing fruit for 24 years. As usual this year - loads of fruit.
But I am concious that I have never given it any food. I feed all the veg and the fruit bushes but the poor old apple tree just goes on producing.
Where does its nourishment come from? Should I feed it, if so what on?
every couple of yrs, we feed our 35 yr old discovery with some chicken pellets, don't know if it needs it, gotta look after the poor old thing, we always get a fantastic crop ;D
They develop some long roots and I have often found mine coming up through any nearby compost.
Rather think that you can let it look after it's self. If you are feeding other plants round about, it is probably dipping into that supply.

just gets better and better, loaded this year , shame they don't keep but, by the time we give loads away and stew stuff and juice it as well as eating at least 2 per day each, there are not many left to worry about ;D
