Title: Advice please :)
Post by: springbok on June 28, 2009, 23:43:35
Need some much needed advice here :)

Last year I got a green house, and paid a lot of money to have all the glass replaced in it.

Today a 2 year old boy stood on my glass cloche and went straight though it, luckily no serious injuries just lots of small cuts but it could of been a lot worse :(

I now have bad bad visions of my own 2 year  old son and my greenhouse at the top of the garden.......2 year olds dont listen to NO!!!..stay away.... they dont see the danger.

Big decision but I have decided to get rid of the greenhouse......however I dont want to lose all the  money I spent on the glass by putting it on freecycle.

I dont want to go down the Ebay route......!!

Any advice??

Hi,
Have you thought of putting up a low fence to keep the little might away from danger. Then you could still keep the greenhouse and enjoy the fruits of your labour too.
My Dad always had a fence along the bottom of the garden to keep me and the others out of harms way.
Try it and see how littlen does.

Theres a product just for you.

http://www.chesterford.co.uk/acatalog/Glass_Safety_Film___Glass_Security_Film.html

Safety film. You peel off the backing and stick it on.  The glass then become shatterproof etc, just like the glass in patio doors. You only need to do the lower panes as well, unless your toddler is 7ft tall  ;)

That link is one supplier but now you know what to look for you can source somethign cheaper I ams ure.  Tyr ebays

My first thought was fence it off... but the safety film sounds a good idea.  :-\

Isn't there a danger of suffocation if you wrap the child in safety film?

Why not Ebay?  As a buyer and Seller I have only met really lovely people............but if you're dead-set then how about the local newspaper classified ads or a card in the local shop window?

I'm with Saddad - fence it off.  They do listen (eventually with repetition) My two survived their toddlerhood in a house without stair gates, door locks, switch covers etc because I taught them what not to touch.

He will soon grow up and then you'll want your greenhouse back..........

Thanks everyone for your advice... The fencing off cant happen as I have a raised patio where the greenhouse is at the end  of the garden :)

Found a lady on freecycle today who is willing to take it off my hands and give it a good home........

I am going to start saving up for a perspex greenhouse :)

One good turn deserves another. Try Freecycle.
