Title: Potatoes
Post by: wendsbends on June 26, 2009, 10:32:13
Has anyone started to dig up their early potatoes?  Never know when to start.
We are in South West.

Thanks

Mine are finished!

If they have flowered then that's a good sign for a firkle or poke around.

Goodness me yes! I started digging up my first earlies on the last day of May.
They don't all flower and a good sign that they're ready is that the foliage starts dying back.

We've started to dig ours before the Blight gets them.  Some people on our site have reported signs of Blight, already

I'm leaving mine till they finish flowering, but only because I want good-sized spuds! We're not fans of tiny ones.

All my four Rocket have been dug up and cropped once and replanted, two of them dug and replanted for a second time.  Could now do with some rain to fatten up the third crop.

My Sharpes Express will all be left until they  die back naturally for crop weight (they will keep)

I've been digging my earlies for the last three weeks but I'm in no hurry to dig up what I have left waiting for my Nadine to get to a decent size, :)

I planted some rocket this year for the first time to see how they taste and compare to charlotte. i have cooked them (about 6 to ten mins) and they seem to be very soft and taste watery for a new/salad potatoe?
Is this normal for them as i am not impressed with them! and they are quite large in size i planted them start of april.
