This is the other half of my plot number 2. Bernie, the original owner has given the rest of the plot up due to bad health. I see a winter of serious digging ahead of me. On the upside, hidden in all of the undergrowth are a selection of fruit bushes, don't know what kinda state they will be in when I finally reach them.

Oh EJ, you've just made my day, thank you! I've spent a morning digging up waist high weeds and came home to have a quick look through all the news on A4A. Saw your pictures in the Gallery and was thinking to myself that I'll never get to that stage (they look great by the way). Now I see your new project and I don't feel so bad anymore, at least I know I'm not alone, and I do have slightly fewer weeds to clear than you, you must be stark raving mad but it will be worth it at the end. Good luck, I'll be thinking of you when I'm at my plot dig dig digging over the weekend. ;D
PS I've decided that I very much dislike thistles, I must have got pricked a thousand times through my gloves.
A bit of a challenge EJ, but at least you have taken it over at the right time of year, so nothing will be growing too furiously. You are a glutton for punishment, but at least you will have all that extra fruit whatever it is, to look forward to. Your family are going to be so well fed. Don't know that I'd have the guts to tackle that lot. ??? However are you going to manage it especially with everything else you have to do? In saying that I'll lay bets that before long you have it whipped into submission. ;D

You are MAD, completely MAD! ;D I have just turned down a 2nd plot after much deliberation, and it is already dug over! I just felt I didn't have the time to deal with it to its full potential, (you should see the magnificent weeds on my plot!) so I admire you EJ! Still MAD tho! ;D ;D ;D
Our temptress plottie secretary also informed me that the plot leading on from that is now vacant, and recently dug, so I could have that also!! Thing is, I can work away at that jungle, a little at a time - it isn't as though I need the whole lot dug and ready for spring planting, although that would be nice. One plot isn't enough for me as I have 2 large mature apple trees in the middle of plot one, along with 2 gooseberry bushes (soon to be 3), 5 currant bushes, 2 rows of strawbs, 2 rows of raspberries, 1 row globe artichokes, 1 cardoon and a grave of asparagus. All that permanent planting takes up valuable temporary veggie room! ;D
(The men in white coats will be coming to take me away, ha ha, hee hee, ho ho......)

Actually I'm just jealous. I wish I had the time to dig that much! I thought having kids was supposed to be a full-time job!
It is Aqui! I was hoping to get down there this morning whilst both sprogs were at school, but it tipped down all morning, until number one son was dropped of from the school bus, then the sun shone! Did mean I got all the plants in the conservatory sorted, cleaned, watered and titivated. Now the rest of the housework awaits me. Oh what joy!

Time! I am looking for that hole in the space time continuem so I can gain a bit extra! Now is a good time to take it over as little needs doing on my other plots. I dug, raked and sowen green manure on vacant patches, planted winter onion sets, titivated any autumn/winter veggies and re-edged both plots, so really just general maintenance on them. This leaves me more time to get stuck in to my new patch. There are apparently fruit bushes in amongst the weeds, but I will assume for now they are no more. I don't intend to have any permanent planting as I already have plenty of that on my first plot. If I clear enough by mid spring, I will have corns and squashes on it as it is the rest of plot number 2 and number 2 will be my corn and squash plot again in 2005. Other than that, at the moment, I am thinking no further than just cutting all the growth down to ground level. I will take each visit as it comes and try not to kill myself in the process!
I know how you feel - my leg musles are getting worse!
