Any primula seed needs to be sown really fresh. I've heard that green seed often does well, but I've never tried it. Cowslips are the only one that does well for me, as the allotment tends to dry out in summer, and it grows in drier conditions that other primulas. It's an enthusiastic self-seeder, and has hybridised with some struggling polyanthus, giving me orange cowslips.
