Does anyone have any good ideas for making your own bell cloches. I have thought about recycling plastic drinks bottles and they will be fine for smaller plants. But can anyone think of what I could use to make larger sized cloches.

Seriously I use those 5ltr mineral water bottles that you get from supermarkets. Either buy them (still much cheaper than buying a platic cloche -and you get the water) or scrounge. I found 5 dumped by a bin.
Otherwise people cut the bottom out of demijohns, but that's tantamount to vandalism.

Friend of mine uses the plastic bottles from the big water dispensers that they use in offices, tops cut out. Have no idea how he got his hands on them though!
DP, that's brilliant, wonder where I can get some from, might look through the yellow pages and see if those companies ever get any damaged ones. Jeremy, I know the ones you are talking about, that would be a good second best, I do buy bottled water but usually in the smaller bottles, guess my family is going to be drinking water by the gallon from now on. "You will have another drink of water". ;D
I have some 5ltr bottles of water in the shed for tea-making purposes. Unfortunately it is raining now, otherwise I would go there now! Not sure how much time we will get at the weekend....
Someone told me that water bottle companies have to replace old bottles with new by law after six uses, so they just throw them away.
I use the 6 pint milk bottles cut in half.... this seems to do the job just right for most seedlings
I e-mailed my local water company. Their response:
Thank you for your email. The bottles last for a lot longer than just six uses. When they do reach the stage of disposing them, they then are put back in to the system and recycled.

Thats a good one, what on earth do they mean by that?!
I asked at work but was told that they all go back to the company.
However I do collect the used plastic cups and they are good for planting seeds in. They would just get thrown away otherwise.
