Title: Confused Raspberries
Post by: BockingBill on June 24, 2009, 12:55:03
We seem to have very confused autumn raspberries that are now ripe and ready for eating although the mid-term season crop is nowhere near ready. It's the same ones that fruited up to the end of November last year  ???

Anybody else with this lovely problem?

Yes, me. Did ask the question myself, and it seems it's quite common but I don't know whether it's just this year or generaly BB. Wot a shame if there are to be no autumn fruiters. :(

This morning I picked a few off Glen Moy which is ready to pick mid-June, Glen Ample which fruits from July and Autumn Bliss which has berries from early August!
Confusing and commonplace apparently. Not that I mind as I really like raspberries!

I have got some fruit starting to grow on mine, most are green but found one red one.

Trouble is, the plants are only about 6" tall, and the fruit are tiny. No idea what has happened to them!

It's because you didn't cut them down to the ground over winter. You will still get fruit on this years wood, later on. The real rule with ALL raspberries is to remove wood once it has fruited.

Strangely enough I picked a couple of raspberries today too and I thought they were supposed to be autumn ones.

My glen Moy is laden with fruit....despite some branches dying back which I now think is probably due to lack of water. Though it's too far to the water so I can't water everything. However there is also some fruit on my new Polka and Autumn Bliss both autumn fruiting.
