I've planted 6 rows each of Sarpo Mira and Sapro Axona. Kept a record of which was which on my iPhone. Trouble is I had to restore my iPhone which deleted all my records... I know, backup! It didn't delete anything when I jailbroke it so I didn't think it would when I un-jailbroke it.
Anyway, the foliage is quite distinguishable between the two so how do I know which is which? If anyone growing these two could have a look and let me know I'd very much appreciate it.
Many thanks.
DebP grew some last year... she should be able to help... :-\
I did, but I can't remember any differences between the foliage of those, Mira had purple flowers, and I think Axona had paler ones.........if they are not yet flowering that isn't going to help much eh! :-\
They are all in flower however I've pulled them all off >:(
One type seem to have slightly more red in the stems and the other a slightly more silver sheen to the leaf. It's no big deal, I just wanted to be able to compare flavours knowing which was which. I'll just have to wait until next year or let a few flowers regrow.
Thanks anyway to you both.
Tastewise, I have to say I wasn't impressed with either, hence not growing them again this year. I prefer to go with the Mayan types, Mayan Twilight and Mayan Gold this year. Their folige seem to be more resistant to blight because they are a different variety closer to the original South American potatoes, they resisted really well in 2007 when everything else was wiped out, and they taste very buttery....yum! ;D
Thank you very much Deb. Another variety added to my 'to-get' list for next year.
I went to the plot today and see that both types had a few flowers on. If there is a difference my old eyes can't see it :'(
The Axona have a darker pink flower :)
