Bought these yesterday in Tesco. £1.25. Though somewhere along the line they all lost their taste. However, shall have some fun growing some of them next year.

I wouldn't bother, they didn't have any taste to start with.
I usually buy one or two plants as soon as they come into the garden centre, Grow them on and take cuttings (sideshoots), plant these in 50/50 compost and sand and keep them moist. You will soon have enough plants for stock. I bought three this year and now have 24 plants plus a number I gave away.
What ever you do don't go to Tescos in Ystrad Mynach. They just been fined for short measure on the petrol pumps, they made a extra £500000.00 out of that little scam. As far as fresh fruit and veg I went in there yesterday and the stuff stank rotting on the shelves. Talk about every little helps

Out of interest can I ask why you dont start from seed - there is much more variety in seed than at the garden centres?
Cheers
I'm sure your own plants raised from seed and not forced to the supermarket's requirements and convenience will taste much better! ;D
I've grown several plants from supermarket stock before, worth a punt. I prefer to grow only one or two plants of a lot of different varieties so grow from saved/swapped/occasionally bought seed. Others grow a lot of only a few tried and tested favourites, in which case buying a few stock plants and propagating from them makes sense. Depends on what you fancy.... 8)
Deb P.Have you any seeds of the toms you were selling at the plant sale please. I can't remember what they were called but someone said the toms were in a supermarket as an exclusive. Am I making any sense :-[. If you have I could PM you with what I have to swap.
Do you mean the British Green Tiger ones? ???
That's the one Deb ;D. What clever girl you are. Have you tried it?
I got some seeds in a A4A seed swap, so I'm trying it for the first time this year.
I did get to taste one at Gardener's World Live the other week though on the British tomatoes stand............the skin was really thick and I wasn't impressed! Hopefully homegrown will be nicer......? :-\
I think I have a few seeds left, hang on, I'll check the filing cabinet....yep, I have some! PM me your addy and I'll post them off to you! ;D
Grannyjanny it would be advisable, and safer, to PM your name and address to Deb and delete it from your reply!
Yes I know Flighty pressed the wrong thing. How do I delete. I've PM Dan.
There should still be modify & delete buttons on the top right of the post you want to delete they usually stay around for about an hour.
Grannyjanny I see that Baccy Man has beat me to it.
Click on the modify button and you'll be able to edit your reply.
Thanks folks. Think I'm going down with something ::).
I actually got some really nice tasting tomatoes from Tesco yesterday. That must be a first. Still think it will be amusing to try growing several different types. I think they pick them green and that is why some of them have little taste.
I went to a petrol station iwhere the guy filled a can between customers. and many did not notice there was already £5 on the pump when they started.
Had some seed from a tomato tasting but they were the only thing that did not survive my holiday. Have a few left for next year.
Quotemodify & delete buttons
I had not seen this before. I posted something with a typo a couple of weeks ago which lead to a misunderstanding and did not know I could correct it.
The modify button is on a timer. Not sure how long it remains available.
Alot of the Tesco toms come up from Spain but I remember seeing a programme about a supermarket greenhouse sorry more like a warehouse a massive building at Bury St Emunds right next to British Sugar, the tomato feed and the heating for the place is from all the waste that came out of British Sugar, :)

I only buy the ones I want, raising from seed will require heat and light early in the season. Buying in three plants to raise 24 cuttings is more energy efficient.
