You maybe able to adapt it.
The shovel handle is the only one that's long enough, but it's probably too thin. You need a four foot (at least) pickaxe handle. You might get one here, or if he doesn't do handles separately, he should know who does. http://www.get-digging.co.uk/tools.htm
It might be a good idea to knock in a metal wedge into the head of the shaft once you have fitted your Azada, :)
We got one for our azada from the farm supply shop. We were told to soak it in water over night. Ours was brought back from Portugal at christmas & it cost 5euro 50.
thanks for the ideas
i am still looking - ideally for a tapered pole
the only pick axe handles i have come accross have a rectangular profile and i need a circular one

Just a thought. I phoned our local tool hire shop when we needed one & they sold handles, not four candles ;D ;D ;D. Sorry couldn't resist that one.
You will need something longer than a pick axe handle for a azada, in your part of the world you must have a 'Country store' or a 'Central wool growers ' , :)
Would this be the type of handle you are looking for?

It's got a round cross-section, about four feet long, and an enlarged end like a pickaxe handle.
