Title: Feedin onions?
Post by: grannyjanny on June 13, 2009, 15:55:07
Should I be giving the onions any feed. The ground was dug & trenched & well rotted manure was put in the trenches.  Fish, blood & bone was sprinkled at the given rate. They are red baron & stuttgart onions.

I wouldn't bother as the 'bone' element in your FB&B is slow release fertiliser.

If you do decide to feed; start feeding with a high potash feed when the bulbs start to swell, but on no account give them any nitrogen (blood) at this stage.

To do so can reverse the position you want to be in i.e. you may get; soft mushy bulbs!
