At what size is it to late to transplant beetroot, I've just thinned a row out a couple of days ago they are about four/five inches in height and they are not looking to happy at the moment, :)
I thinned mine out when they were about 4" tall. I was throwing away the thinnings and thought I wonder if I could plant them. I did and only lost 2. rest are doing fine.
I never sow beetroot seed directly into the ground.I always transplant and always get good results.I plant 2 oe 3 seeds in a cell and put out when they have a decent root ball.
I dont bother to thin out as such.Mine grow in bunches of around 4 or 5 and I pick the smaller "baby" beet and it gives space for the others to grow on.
I have successfully transplanted beetroot, but I think it has to be quite early on and keep them well watered after transplanting.
I didn't think it was possible to transpant beetroot until I saw the results of a fellow plot holder. Do it now all the time. Whats life without a bit of experimentation
