My daughter has a grow box thing & her 3 year old is going to grow veg in it.Can seeds be sown straight into it or should they be transplanted. I've got some half pint peas for her to grow & some hestia beans.

No reason at all why they shouldnt put straight into a grow bag.
Nature never had grow boxes or grow bags. Think we have an Anglo/American thing here. Grow bags/boxes are usually for the stage after 'things' have started to grow.
However although germination is better for fragile seeds in a better quality mix intended for starting seeds.
Depends on what she is growing, There should be success.
A child usually starts off with big seeds like squashes, pulses or sunflowers. All will grow in a reasonably good situation quite fast.
Kids need results quick, nothing too fiddly. Beetroot is good too, children can handle beet seeds.
With kids, don't be afraid to let them try planting the seeds from their own fruit. Oranges, plums and so on. Plant lots and if one or two produce growth, they love it. Can make attractive house plants.
Going off topic slightly, when I was a kid I used to grow seed (usually pea seeds) in a glass using paper and water.
Put the slightly rolled up paper inside the glass so it touches the inside of the glass all around, then push the seeds between the paper and glass, and add water.
I found it great watching them grow day by day, with the advantage of seeing the root system growing.
Only trouble is I had to experiment, and added chemicals from my chemistry set into the water ..... and nothing grew :(
In fact, I might give it a go again, without the chemicals ;D
