Title: shin splints
Post by: shirlton on June 09, 2009, 17:38:50
The front of my leg has been very painful over the last 2 days and apparently I have shin splints. When we were taking down the Gh last week I was walking back and forth loading the glass and frame into the car whilst Tone was taking it apart. Then on Friday we had to unload it all again onto the allotmment. Must have been all the walking. Would have thought that all the digging and stuff I do would have made me legs really strong

Owww Shirl!  Shin splints are horrid!  Remember getting them when I was training for a half marathon (foolish I know) and you just have to keep walking/running through them to get them better.

Much sympathy for you .... :'( :'( :-*

Me too.I reckon its one of the most painful things I have ever had.Just a case of overuse in my case, suddenly "hit" by all that physical stuff in one go!

So I know what you are going through Shirl and I dont envy you one little bit.Hope it eases for you soon.

Ouch, nasty! I feel for you. I've got two strained elbows, presumably 'digger's elbow' as I've done a lot of digging over the past few months. Either that or lifting bags of compost; anyone else had this happen? Over the weekend they were so sore that at a social event, I was hard pressed not to wince when shaking hands with people. Can't lift anything heavier than a hardback book without two hands.

The really frustrating thing is that I have courgettes and beans wanting to go out, and only a *little* digging required to make space for them, but I daren't touch a spade!

Isn't it a jip how everything starts to disintegrate once you pass 40? :D

And when you are knocking 75 not many bits left to fall off :o
Hope the pain is a little easier this evening Shirl.

Thank for your posts.I don't need a mobility scooter at the moment Kev cos ower Tone can still drive(maybe when he goes in to have his hip sorted I will def get back to you mate). I think when you hit 60 you begin to feel a bit creaky. Lord knows how Tone feels at 80

1066 - I don't know about 'arms locked', I was thinking of carrying large compost bags (cradled in the arms, so to speak), though I also move them about the garden by dragging, which does have the arm out straight. Also, getting the compost home by trolley (don't have a car) I tend to pull the trolley behind me, which does the same. So it could be 'dragging elbow' or 'trolley elbow'... :)
I am starting to realise that I really must do warm up exercises before I start doing anything heavy!

(Sorry, I've hijacked the thread away from shin splints...) :/
