Over the weekend I had one tayberry and 2 gooseberries not quite ripe but still very early (the gooseberries had fallen off anyway).
One strange thing I have a leveller bush and langley gage in very similar conditions and size etc but the leveller has fruit but langley does not (thank God not the other way round, leveller is the best). Could it be because last year it was affected by mildew and I had to cut a bit off?
I find the best way to tell when a gooseberry is ripe is to give it to a toddler and observe facial expression :o
plot 69, can remember my toddler grandaughter 's first experience with ' salt and vinegar '
crisps ! Never to be forgotten, :D

Took my Granddaughter to the plot this morning for her first experience of being let loose among the strawberries.

Just behind me off camera, is a very large gooseberry bush, however her Mum (my daughter) and her Nan (my wife) both know what I'm like and were keeping a very close eye on me.
A picture is worth a thousand words.
A Jiffy Lemon on the other hand is worth a thousand pictures <Evil Grin ;D >
Absolutely stunning picture...one for framing I'd say

Thank you, not bad for an iPhone picture.
I like the hair ;D
I thought it was steam from a chilli she had just eaten, wish I could work in the garden in a pin stripe suit :D
Where can I get such a sweet strawberry picker for my garden?
Picked another 5lb today... Getting a bit fed up with strawberries to be honest.
It's not just he cost of sugar or the cost of jars. Have you seen the price of scones and clotted cream these days ;D
