Title: Pumpkins
Post by: chippy queen on June 04, 2009, 21:52:47
Hi
I have nutured 4 jack o lantern pumkins. The are now in 6" pots and I think they need to be planted out.  I know they take up a lot of room, but hey-ho!!!! Can someone tell me  - i know they like manure so do I dig a hole and just put a couple of shovels of manure in the hole and then plant a pumpkin in the manure or do I have to mix the manure in with the soil and then plant it in.  As you can tell am new to this.  Never grown a pumpkin before. Thanks

I always dig a big hole, fill it with manure, mound the soil back on top and plant my squash in the middle of the mound.

I've done as plot69 but with a layer of home made compost over the muck and mixed with the local soil round... our soil is very heavy clay and I think the roots will appreciate the compost mix...  :)

I grow mine on the compost heap!
