When do you start harvesting jap onions.
we've just taken up our red ones, shirl..some had fallen over, I'm sure I read on here, once some go, take them up..luckily we've had them drying in the sun for most of the week, just moved most into the poly, Ray's strung some up ;D

I could say when they are ready! ::) but then you will want to know when they are ready ;)
I treat them like any other onion I let the foliage tell me, i.e. when the foliage is not fit for purpose I pick them.
Our foliage is still looking lush and green. We are growing radar and swift. Radar are alot further in front bulbwise anyhow
The bulb is gonna tell me when it big enough to eat 8)
I've been picking mine for weeks Shirl, once they look tennis ball size I pick them, even with the green foliage, they don't store well so I don't want them all ready at the same time. ;D ;D ;D

Which onion are you on about the swif or radar. marshalls said that the radar would store into the autumn although swift would be 3 months.
Pulled all mine at the weekend before our resident tealeaf did.
Mine are Yellow Senshyu Shirl, I was under the impression all winter onions didn't store very well. ??? :-\ :P ;D ;D ;D
