Title: Chickens sitting around
Post by: princescruffster on June 03, 2009, 16:15:40
Hi
I bought three chickens last week - 2 warrens and 1 black rock.  New to chicken keeping. Bought from a reputable poultry farm. They are about 19 weeks.
Is it usual for them to sit on the ground alot?  Are they just hot and bothered like the rest of us?
They seem healthy enough, eating plenty and drinking but they seem rather lazy.
Thanks for any advice ???

Mine are sitting about a lot in this heat... but they soon perk up when I go near with a bit of mixed corn...

Presumably yours have bright, shiny eyes, are eating & drinking & otherwise alert?

with direct sunlight they do like to sun bathe a bit. They lean on their side a little and extend a wing. So long as they are eating and drinking in between.

Yes with a nice full crop they like to laze about a bit. Ours also like a nice dust bath which is natures way of keeping the pests at bay.

yea its good to see them sitting round chilling, in fact the will be times when u wished they did it more!! rather then eating your plants!

Nothing better then seeing a chicken sunbathing, its so cute:)
