It's going to be a chilly one tonight. Time to take out the fleece and bring in the tomatoes ::)
Thursday Night is the prediction here... :o
I'll believe it when I see the results... :-X
Just "Metchecked" and notice that Thursday nights lowest temp is now 6c for this area.It was 1c when I checked yesterday!
Look at the BBC one instead, seems to be a bit more reliable to me...
I used to swear by metcheck but it seems to have gone off the rails in the last year, almost as if it creates scares to get people hooked on weather watching ( maybe even subscribing....)
know what you mean see metcheck http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/today.asp?zipcode=Cwmbran then the BBC http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/today.asp?zipcode=Cwmbran
Same link for both....
i go with the met office are they the same as met check ???, i kinda figured they are the ones everyone gets their info from so i go straight to the source.
were expecting a low of 7 degrees, no sure I'm fleecing anything I'll see how i feel this evening.

sorry try that one
I thought that the Beeb got their info from the Met Office. The Met office update their pressure charts at 7.30am.

According to the metoffice is going to fall to 4C during the night in the Wattisham area(suffolk) :(
A low of 6 tonight for the solihull area. :(
Now predicting an actual zero on Saturday night... :o I'll have to keep an eye on that, got my squash out and will want to set up the stalls for the Plant Sale.
:-X
Not looked at any weather check websites, but I've just been outside potting on, and my fingers are definitely feeling a chill (in Geordieland).
We're forecast 0°C here in Maidstone for Saturday night. I have maize, peppers, tomatillos, beans, tomatoes, squash and potatoes all in the ground. Will double fleece actually be enough to protect them from temperatures that low? This is very worrying?
I think that you do need to know your own area. Some places seem to get colder whilst others stay less cold within a small radius.
Same when it is hot. Not everywhere gets as hot.
The different weather forecasts for areas take their measurements from slightly different locations. It is surprising the difference it can make.
At this time of year the drop to the minimum temperature is for such a short time that almost all plants will manage to survive.
That's reassuring. I have precious little experience of a frost this late, growing here in sunny Kent and am wont to panic when my babies are involved.
As long as it doesn't hit zero (and it's not forecast to here) I'm not worrying too much.
Unfortunately all my tender stuff is out - fleeced and covered what I can.
I use forecastfox as an add on to firefox.
Its says that here in Leicester it will be rainy and 6 degrees.
I find that they are very good normally plus it updated the present weather about every 10 minutes. (or of course you can look out of the window.)
We have the old water pipe hoops over our raised beds so if it changes I'll put fleece on mid afternoon.
Global warming may have been overstated.
I'm with Zig-Zag Micro climate has a lot to do with it, and many plants will survive an hour or two at zero... :-X
Trouble is, when you have spent so much love and time raising plants then you daren't take the risk. I've covered all my tender stuff, beans, courgettes, tomatoes, usimg fleece, bubble wrap, old compost bags......and stapled old sheets over the flower pouches on the fence - that should guarantee that temperatures stay high here in the east midlands!
