A big opps! I was sowing my French Beans a few weeks ago and it started raining hard so I kept going bunging them in quickly and not paying enough attention to how i was sowing them. I'm now paying the price for that as only half have come up and some of those have done amazing contortions to get up! What I must have done in my hurry was pushed them in so the root was coming out the end nearest the surface and it had to grow all the way round the bean to get to the soil meanwhile I have leaves trying to push themselves back up through the soil as they were caught underneath.
I won't make that mistake again!
Had you already 'chitted' them then? I wasn't aware there was a right and wrong way to sow the seeds!
I just chuck my french beans in, no particular way as i no of. ;D
They don't care which way round they are. Did you ever experiment with broad beans when you were a kid? They turn themselves round quite happily.
I 'chitted' my bean seeds before planting them in loo roll tubes - I obviously planted them the wrong way round because they performed all sorts of contortions to get out - some even burst out the sides of the tubes :o They are doing ok now they are planted out on the plot - a lesson learned :-[ Just wish it would rain a bit in this part of the world.
Sounds like you grew the Australian kind not ment for over here mate
Strewth - you could be right! Antipodean beans. ::)
French beans usually seem to unravel themselves. It is fascinating watching the bean strainghten itself out.
No it's me that's antipodean...not the beans!
