Poll
Question:
Will you avoid voting for the main three parties?
Option 1: Yes
Option 2: No
Option 3: I will abstain.
There seems to be more new independents coming out of the woodwork.
The http://www.juryteam.org (http://www.juryteam.org) party seem to be the latest.
I'm not too sure about them though, what about you?
National Front rools. :D
Don't vote, it only encourages them........... :-X
If you don't vote it keeps them in! ;D
For the first time in my life im going to vote, I think the 3 main parties need a bit of a shock!!...I thought I might vote Green Party lol.
I will always vote UKIP in European elections because it is the only party which promises a referendum on whether to leave the EU - a crooked shambles so corrupt that its auditors refuse year after year to approve its accounts, and compared with which even our most dodgy politicians look like boy scouts.
As far as local elections are concerned, most voters have, or ought to have, a fair idea of the worth of what their actually representatives do and can judge them accordingly.
UKIP are not perfect they have had their little fiddles going on in europe, ;)
We don't think that any of the present parties are worth voting for. They all seem to be out to line their own pockets. Do we abstain or do we spoil the ballot paper?
There is an article in todays Daily Mail by Peter Oborne a staunch Conservative who says he will not vote for them on Thursday. It has information on the Jury Team and Libertas.
I have received one of Gorden Browns letters apologing for his partys expences. It made more angry to think he wasted money sending these out. Being sorry does not remedy matters.
I fogot to use the spell check. Shows how angry I am.
Do we abstain or do we spoil the ballot paper?
Good people suffered and died for universal sufferage-to abstain is to insult their memory-if you really cannot decide then spoil your paper
I have no idea who to vote for !!!!! First time in my life i dont think any of them are worth the lead in a pencil to make a cross !!!
I agree with cleo, a lot of women went to a lot of trouble to get me my vote, and until now I have always used it.
Small choice in rotten apples, springs to mind.

I think that beore the next general election we should form "The Allotment & gardeners party", between us I am sure we could show the shower we have at present a thing or two.
If you can't find someone to vote for in the Euros, you must be very fussy, there's about 20 choices. If you don't vote, you give more power to the BNP (who will be voting), so please give that some thought before throwing away your vote. Their views are absolutely repulsive and all reasonable people should do what they can to avoid giving them any power.
Personally I voted (by post) for one of the main 3 that I am a member of.
I totally agree with Ollie - if you abstain, you increase the percentage vote for parties such as UKIP and the BNP who are making *massive* attempts to increase their votes on June 4th. You might as well vote for them yourself, as spoil your ballot.
I'm voting Green, for existing MEP Caroline Lucas. I would have done anyway, notwithstanding all the recent revelations, which shouldn't be taking anyone by surprise!
You can find out here, who your MEPs are, and how the voting broke down last time round:

By the way, here are some interesting statistics I looked up after I got the BNP leaflet through my door, which basically argues that 'we earned the right', at Trafalgar, the Somme, and the Battle of Britain, to 'British Jobs for British People'.
World War I:
Number of Indian troops:
1.4 million
World War II:
Number of Indian troops:
2.5 million - the largest all-volunteer army in history
Number of African troops:
55,000, plus hundreds of thousands of auxiliary troops
Number of Polish pilots in Battle of Britain:
145, responsible for 12% of hits
Number of Poles to fight for the Allies, many with British forces:
2 million
On behalf of my relatives who fought in WW1 & II, and my great-grandfather who died at Paschendaele, I fiercely object to them being used as propaganda for the BNP. Very angrily so!
Sorry, OllieC, I'm not being fussy. Apart from the three main UK parties, the only ones I know of are UKIP, the greens and BNP. So you tell me I have another 14 choices. Well none of them have been canvassing round here, so could you kindly tell me who they are, and what they stand for???
PS, but then I'm not a politically motivated person.

Valmarg, have a look at this page:

At the top, are the sitting MEPs - scroll down, the next section is the candidates for June 4th. (I'm not sure how you find regional boundaries if you're not sure which is your area!)
Hi Valmarg. I've sent my list back now (it was the voting slip), but some that stuck in my mind - The Roman Party, Veritas, Liberal something else, Christian something or other... 20 was a guess, just checked with the Mrs, she reckons more like 15 but still plenty of choice...
Maybe there's too much choice now, the vote will be split between them and one of the 3 mains will still get in.
QuoteI think that beore the next general election we should form "The Allotment & gardeners party", between us I am sure we could show the shower we have at present a thing or two.
You think you have problems now, just imagine if dumbo Brown was replaced with Eristic PM. 8)
I would think that any replacement for the repulsive gordon would be acceptable.
General election asap.
valmarg
We had a leaflet for 'the Roman party' too, couldn't quite work that one out! :D
Is Guy Fawkes standing this year?

The Euros are much fairer - there isn't an outright winner or a party that "gets in". So you really can vote for the best match with your views.
What's all this about "the 3 mains"? Lib Dems have been pretty well sleaze-free, judging by the revelations so far, and have been way ahead of the others in arguing for reform of Parliament, long before the expenses scandals. There are are also many Labour and Tory MPs who have not played the rotten system, despite all the temptations.
Never been a Labour voter and this past few years shows why. This year I will be giving one of the underdogs my vote.
I don't think it matters who you vote for they all p*ss in the same pot if you ask me.
I have never voted for anyone in a European election. I've always spoiled my paper, on principle. I don't want an "MEP", and certainly not the sort of slimy little toads who normally stand for Euro election.
But I'm concerned about the potential rise of extremism, whether racists, or eco-fascists, or single-issue nutcases. So for the first time, I will be voting, and for one of the main UK parties.
well i was thinking of voting for the the decision not to be in the european union in the first place i dont agree with brussels sticking there noses in to what should be a democratic decision from ourselves rather than some over paid politician scamming the system i pay very much to suport on a monthly basis .
making legal laws on our behalf thinking ghuman rights should be in concideration .
like you say they all p**s in the same pot
I think Europe's great. For every ludicrous story about straight bananas, there's a great bit of legislation... For example, the police overuse of DNA retention for innocent people being corrected, European arrest warrants being introduced, pressure to keep the working week from being too high, carbon emission agreements & trading... loads of great stuff.
Unfortunately the press don't like Europe, and since they provide us with most of our information, it's hard to find the good stuff. But there's plenty of it.
I agree with Ollie. And trying to cut ourselves off from Europe, is cutting off our nose to spite our face. It's like Kansas trying to leave the United States. Not much point in this joined-up world, of cutting yourself adrift...
I'd like to join the Euro, too. At least we then don't have to worry about our currency going up or down compared to the rest of Europe, only our standing against the dollar. My husband is American, and a professional musician, so he works in the States AND Europe AND the UK. Fluctuating currencies make life so uncertain... and every time you convert your earnings from one to another, you get fleeced.
Dont know who i will vote for yet apart from i will not consider any of the three main parties and certainly not the green numpties.

Thanks for forgetting the ANZAC's on your list. My father and two of his brother's fought in the second world war. My Dad was at El Alamein and Tobruk where Churchill sacrificed ANZAC troops into the worst positions in the battle for political reasons. Altogether he spent 5 years in the Middle East and Italy with no leave back home. My Dad was in the Engineer's and they were first across the minefields to clear a path for advancing troops, no metal detector's in those days it was pretty much luck and intuition. One of his brothers' was killed in Italy, he was a medic. His other brother was in the Pacific.
However ...how did I get to live in this country? I came in as the spouse of a EU passport holder (Dutch nationality he got from his parents), I stayed in a marriage that was destructive to me because divorce meant losing my immigration status and my children. Only when I had successfully obtained 'leave to remain' could I leave that destructive marriage. Commonwealth citizens lost the right to live in the UK when the EU began but their parents, grandparents and great grandparents fought in wars to protect Britain from invasion...and still do.... my nephew has had a tour of duty in East Timor and Afghanistan with the NZ army and UN forces.
Women fought hard for the vote...so all women should honour that and make sure they vote even if it's a protest vote. i voted for the loony party in county council elections! On the grounds that he's no worse than the rest!
if only there was a box marked
None of the above

There was a candidate standing as the None Of The Above candidate - single issue was he wanted 'none of the above' added to all ballot papers
I was a bit miffed yesterday when I went to vote as the only candidates listed for my area were Cons, Labs, Libs & BNP!! >:( I didn't want to waste my vote but didn't want to vote on a 'second choice' (but did in the end) Oh well.
Sorry kea, but I think it was WW1, Gallipoli that Churchill sacrificed the ANZACs, albeit unintentionally.
I should have to say I dislike the EU. Grocer Heath was determined to get us into this 'club' at any cost.
The bit I dislike is that he abandoned the old commonwealth countries. Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Rhodesia, Canada, India, Packistan, etc. The old 'Empire' countries that had stuck by us and fought to help us defeat Hitler
He also sold the UK fisheries industry down the swanee in his desperate attempt to get us admitted to the then Common Market, now the EU. Spain is in eternal gratitude to him.
I hope he is rotting in purgatory for the next million years, before going to hell for what he has done to the UK. ;D ;D
valmarg
Well we've all done our bit now.
To tell you that I feel sorry for Mr Brown goes against the grain with me but I do. I think his inherited Blairite Babes did him no favours and Blair himself is still pulling the strings in the background.
On reflection I think our Telegraph played a very important part in this election and maybe put out a few warnings before they launched their tirade on MP's expenses.
They say "all's fair in love and war" but not politics, it seems to me that it's all about who can gather the most brownie points first!
They say don't talk about politics, sex, money and religion so it's back to our spuds ;D
Linda
Our station was a third down in voters this year.
Thursday morning I was saying to my OH that we seem to be making our way out of the recession now. Although I have never been a supporter, I was praising Gordon Brown for how he had handled everything and in such a short time. The pound had strengthened against the dollar and Euro, shares were rising significantly and house prices were up 2.6%. Suddenly, with the ministerial resignations and the results of the elections, everything has gone into reverse!! It doesn't help that the press jump on the bandwagon all the time to run down our pm instead of reporting that things were getting better!!

No he wasn't Prime Minister during WW1 and I assure you the ANZAC's remember very well who it was.
My Dad had to shake his hand when Churchill visited the Middle East to review the troops, and my Dad would have liked to refuse.
Hi Kea, sorry I offended you by leaving the ANZACs off the list, but I left a lot of other people off it too - the Americans and Canadians for a start. I was deliberately concentrating on those groups who are picked on as being 'those d**n immigrants' who are 'flooding the country'. Asians, Caribbeans, and Africans have always got the worst of it here, but Poles are the recent target of the ultra-right, as they have arrived in such large numbers over recent years.
Aussies and Kiwis have never been much trouble to the right wing consciousness, for various reasons such as they don't arrive in such numbers, they often go home again after their youthful excursion, and, frankly, they speak English and look like us.
I wasn't attempting to make a roster of all the contributors to the Allies - only the ones that the right wingers are so keen to get rid of, when in fact (my point being...) they did also 'earn the right'...
The more I learn about it recently, the more horrified I am by how heinously the Allies betrayed the Poles (and Czechs and other E Europeans) at the end of WWII. We handed them to Stalin, very much against their will, rather than rock the boat. They paid for the feeble loyalties of western Europe, with decades of Soviet rule. 20% of the Polish population died in the war, and then we went and handed them to a brutal dictator, knowing that they had already massacred thousands of Polish officers and intelligentsia to prevent opposition ('the Katyn massacre'). We were also busy appeasing Hitler when he invaded the Sudetenland, so reneged on our treaty to back the Czechs, and didn't lift a finger to help, at that stage.
If Eastern Europe is still recovering from many decades of ruinous Communism, the collapse of which has allowed corruption and organised crime to run wild, then we in the west did have a part in that story - and resenting their presence here now seems in bad grace.
Oh dear, why am I writing about this on a gardening forum? :D
Anyway, apologies Kea if you misunderstood my post, I certainly would not forget the Anzacs if I were discussing all the Allied combatants. I've seen graves of Commonwealth (Aus/NZ/SA/Can) soldiers, sailors and airmen here, and I always think - poor *fatherless children* - came all the way around the world to die in a faraway war and be buried in a foreign country.
My Grandad was at sea (merchant navy) all through the war, and one of his most haunting memories was hearing Maori soldiers singing on deck, under the stars, on their way to the war. He said it was one of the most beautiful things he ever heard, and always wondered what happened to 'those poor fellows'.
Yes sorry Helen.....you'd have been there all day if you'd tried to list them all!
