It looks to me like young wireworms!  They just haven't got their ginger colouring yet - but with all those feet I reckon that's what they are!

is that common? i've not seen it before. Is it newly cleared ground?

Something else to worry about for the future

More importantly, why didn't your seed germinate? It looks as though they're just feeding off the dead seed. What sort of bean were they, and were they in pots or outside?

As rhubarb thrasher asked
QuoteIs it newly cleared ground?

If it was and there was a lot of couch grass on the plot prior to cultivation, you will always find wire worms !

The rotting might be down to the ground being too wet! or not free draining enough.

it is not newly cleared ground, it is a white lady runner bean and had been but directly in the ground whichis not water logged. the bean did show signs of germination, probably not clear in the photo.

i looked at pictures of wireworms on the internet and they look nothing like these, in fact the pictures i saw didn't look like they had legs!! i'm comfused!

I'm wondering whether they're centipedes or millipedes. The pic isn't big enough to be sure. Maybe the ground wasn't warm enough. Or maybe it was dud seed.
