Title: Goji Berry seedlings
Post by: Digeroo on May 27, 2009, 18:41:14
I have some Goji Berry plants I grew from seed.  Several of the plants are doing very well indeed.  They are about a foot tall.

Do they need staking.?  Should I pinch out the top to get them to bush out?

How long before I get some fruit?  Are they worth the effort?  Though so far they have been very easy.

I bought some from Thompson & Morgan earlier in the year and got these instructions.
They don't really help much though.
My branches are about a foot long, some flop over horizontally, I have staked a few vertically, but I'm not really sure what to do either.  I'll just let them grow by themselves and see what happens.

edit: The images have been shrunk, if you right click and save them, they'll be more readable.

Whoops just read your instructions.  Says 6 ft between plants I think I have put them about 2 ft apart.  I shall have to move them sometime.  Seems they can be a wind break sounds great.  My allotment is extremely windy.

If you put the item from T&M into something like paint you can blow it up. which dtw posted it say there 2m 6ft apart.  Some of mine are only six inches.  A couple of them are really strong so I will move the rest in the winter,

I should imagine they will fruit when they are a couple of years old.
There's no sign of any flowers on mine yet.
I bought them as plug plants earlier this year.

There are lots of old posts about Goji Berries.  Does anyone have any flowers yet?  How are the two and three year old plants getting on?

I have a one year old from seed sown last year, I did read somewhere not to formative prune for the first 2 years. But mine was almost 3ft tall and spindly.....so I did cut back the 2 very long shoots, now will wait and see if they bush out.

I cant see it will hurt in the long run......I guess :-\ :D
