Title: Kiwi's - male or female?
Post by: banshee on May 25, 2009, 22:13:21
Please could someone tell me if some kiwi plants are male and some female? If so what is the difference between them? I thought they were self pollinating, no doubt I'm wrong as usual.  ;D

Thanks in advance.

They're usually male or female plants, but there's also a self-fertile type called Jenny I think. So you're right (ish) :)

Aww, thanks to you both. I really thought that they were self pollinating - glad I asked before I got one and wondered where the fruit was!

Thanks again.

If you're keen to get one anyway search for "Kiwi Jenny". A few places have that self-fertile one.

Thanks ajb, that's the one that made me think they were all self pollinating.  :)
