Post by: Georgie on May 25, 2009, 20:37:29
This is Aquilegia McKana hybrid and one of my favourite colourways.

Lovely Georgie! I have a variety (don't know the name) with smallish flowers in shades of blue and purple. Any idea?

Thanks, Manics.  Nice pics.   :)  How tall does giant yellow grow?  Might well be tempted.   ;D  I have a few yellows including this McKana which I really love.   :)

I love Aquilegias - mine (which are just the common ones, not the McKana Hybrids) self seed everywhere and this year I have a fantastic colour range.  The self seeded ones always seem to be much stronger plants than the ones I grow in trays/pots from self saved seed.

I had one that colour a few years ago but it only flowered the one year and disappeared.

I think that's true of many self-seeded plants, Lavender.  If they come up unaided, I reckon they've found the conditions which suit them.   :)
