Title: sweet peppers
Post by: wattapain on May 23, 2009, 18:28:54
Hi - I would like some advice re growing peppers please.
i have several varieties - some from real seed co, some from Francchi, and want to know  - do I grow them like indeterminate toms or as bush varieties  :-\
Also, how tall should I let them grow before pinching out?
They are in an unheated greenhouse and are about 4" tall at present.
Lots of room  as all toms are outside now  ;D
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I just let them grow as bushes...  :) I don't pinch them out unless they get too tall...

Put them in a big pot as soon as possible because they tend to bonsai if in a small one..They grow bigger quicker in a big one. Dunno why but they do.

After that just leave them alone, water of course and feed, the same as you would tomatoes.

Then harvest when you are ready to. Keep a check in case part of the fruit is eaten by slugs, if so, then you have to pick it, or it will rot. Either cut the damaged bit off and use the rest or throw.

Many thanks to both of you.
Great - they will be potted on into big pots tomorrow.
Lots of big pots available now that the toms have moved on!!

I agree with the others!

This is how I grow mine (inc slide show)

ps I prefer to grow mine in the greenhouse border rather than in pots!
