Don't think myrtle has a cullinary use Emma.  I looked in my herb book and it just describes it as an attractive evergreen shrub, (Myrtus communis) although if anyone has any other information I would be interested.

Hi.
In my book the leaf can be stuffed inside Roast Pork, after it has been cooked for a delicate flavour. The leaf has a sweet spicy orange fragrance.
Leaves and flowers can be added to potpourri.
A sprig of myrtle should be added to a wedding bouquet,i am holding onto my pot of myrtle in the vain hope that it will be used if the event of a wedding in my household.

Thanks for that Georgiesgirl.  Mum has brought me some from Waitrose, assuming I would know what to do with it!  At least now I know.  Might have to ask Ava to marry me again!  ;D

Hi EJ! To add to the answers, as well as stuffing the leaves into pork, a branch of myrtle can be put under roast pork for the last 10 minutes of roasting, or on barbeques when grilling lamb. You can remove the green parts of the flowers and add them to fruit salads. The berries can be ground up and used as a spice for a mild juniper-berry flavour.

Sorry GardenGirl!  ;) Try anything by Jekka McVicar or Lesley Bremness - I find them excellent!
