my hp photosmart 8050 worked ok when i used it about 6 mnth ago .
i had a problem with my laptop in feb this year and a computer repair shop sorted it out.
i wanted to print a document i had done on open office last wk but nothing ! just showed pending in queue on printer status on computer. tried printing a test page nothing just another in queue!
did a test page on printer itself ok. clicked add printer ok.clicked trouble shoot add driver says no need as installed hp driver .
un installed hp software and re installed still same problem gets to point to connect printer to usb but box not highlighted only back box showing go go back to trouble shoot.
checked in device manager/usb but nothing saying printer is there or any yellow boxes showing a fault.
tried another good known usb cable still same problem. tried other unknown usb devices ie. camera/pen drive
recognizes them ok . the printer is only 2 1/2yrs old opprox some one says it could be a card problem built into to the printer but why should it have a problem just because it has not been used for 6mnths.
can anyone HELP PLEASE.
Have you plugged the printer into a different usb socket? I had printer troubles, similar, I seem to remember, and that was cured when I switched back to the original usb socket./
I have found with a few different usb devises if you uninstall the software/drivers that came with it then plug in the device/printer and let windows try to recognise it then they often work.
You beat me to it Asbean - I had exactly the same problem, with anything, especially on laptops it seems, if you shift them to a new USB it throws a hissy fit!
I agee. My Cannon only works via the high speed USB at the back of the 'puter. A couple of days ago I tried running a portable scanner through one of the 'standard' USB's on the front....no joy. It does work via a high speed USB at the rear, tho.
What ever you do. Don't get seduced by the cheap ink and consumables that are currently being advertised by Kodac. Their printers are rubbish, I have used 2. 1/2 ink cartidges using the cleaning cycle. Takes ages to print anything and then only if you are holding its hand. Sometimes perfect, other times just d@mn bloody minded. Less than a year old and it needs a new print head.
If you phone the help line you get pased around every male 'printer expert' on the Indian sub continent. Who will guide you through the troubleshooter that you already have on the CD.
My own fault again. 'There is no such thing as a free lunch'
'my hp photosmart 8050 worked ok when i used it about 6 mnth ago' .
Your printer head is probably gummed up.
Take it out & soak in meths, unless you have 'Industrial Alcohol'.
May take 2-3 good dips & shakes - -but may get you there!
I would..
