Title: FAUNA Identification needed of .....
Post by: camo_lady on May 15, 2009, 13:47:24
I have some excellent books on flora and fauna - but am sure that people on this list are better able to tell us about what we find on our allotments... and if we should do anything about them.

Photos obviously help

Yup, a hornet.  Apparently quite gentle, unless you stick your head in their nest, then you'll catch it.

Yipes!!! I thought it was a BIG beastie!
The colour threw me a bit.. as the last one I saw was a) smaller and b) more yellow!

Thanks to those of you 'wot know' these things.

If its very big (5cm say) it could be a newly arrived hummingbird hawk moth or a bee hawk moth.
