I hate using peat, and it's getting to the point where I'm thinking of going back to rolling my own. I used to use JI mixes, but with leafmould instead of peat, sterilised with Jeyes. It's just a matter of getting myself organised.

Roberts quote above is from the string concerning poor quality, bought Compost.

I am interested in hearing peoples experience using Jeyes Fluid as a steriliser. I have used it to wash plant pots and trays, but not as a soil or compost steriliser.

A few years ago I used it to wash Dahlia Tubers before winter storing, but was told this was harmful to the plant  :-\

comments appreciated

All I can say is that I used it successfully years ago, mainly to make cactus compost. From what I remember, it was a case of watering it on, and leaving it for six weeks or so to dissipate. It was a lot less smelly that sterilising the compost in the oven!

All my horse manure came smelling of jeyes so I presumed they cleaned the yard with it.
Plants seem fine and the smell has disipated over the last few weeks

Shirlton if you want to keep foxes off then 'home produced' water does the trick usually as foxes dont like humans much lol
