Title: Rhubarb
Post by: toddy1064 on May 12, 2009, 16:36:59
I cut the flowers off mine about a week ago and covered with a dustbin, peeked at it last night and it is coming on well.

I read two books to help me, one by percy thrower on veg and a weekly magazine thingy from the 70's that runs to 2,000 pages and is the best £3 spent at a car boot!

Rhubarb - remove flower stalks at root and discard.  Manure in spoing and water in dry weather, need good soil and moisture.  Best grown under cover to force strong stems, uncover for a day or two before harvesting to improve flavour.

stewed rhubarb is excellent in pancakes as well as the usual pies and crumbles. ;-)
