I have had to chuck out the second lot of brassica seedlings, all my psb, cabbage, sprouts, cauli etc. They get their first two seedling leaves then go brown and die. I have had them in the greenhouse (polycarbonate). What am I doing wrong?
how are you watering them, lottie..we water from the bottom, stops the rot..could be too hot in there, cooked them ?
once mine are germinated, they go outside on a shelf to grow on :)
Shade and fresh air needs attention in the greenhouse :)
same here today i had to throw out 2 shelves worth of broc cauli and cabbages :(
mine where in a plastic green house is it too late to start over potting them?
My PSB did the same thing.
Planting up some more and will take the advice of watering from the bottom instead of the top.

You can sow all of the above now with no problems. Your caulis may need to be of specific varieties. I have just sown all of the above today as successional sowing and some initial sowing of autumn and late winter brassicas.
My brassicas have frazzled too. (sounds painful!!!!) I think it must be the problem og getting to hot in the greenhouse. I too will try watering from the bottom, see if it does the trick. I never seem to have a lot of success with them. ???
They are too warm.
Brassicas don't really need a lot of heat to germinate, in fact it was once a common practice to sow them in a nursery bed or coldframe and leave them to get on with it.
The eventual seedlings were then lifted at a given size and planted out in their final quarters.
Now adays it is quite common to start them off in a green house to get quick germination which is fine.
But! asap after germination/pricking out they should be placed in a cold frame!
