What is a gardening expert? personally I would sooner listen to some old boy on our allotment site rather than someone with a diploma that could be better used hung up in the bog who gives a toss if they know how to say Daffodil in latin, watching GW tonight the presenters come across to me like they are talking to people that have never seen a plant or flower or a tree, ;)
An expert gardener is someone who's been doing it for about fifty years, so they've seen it all, and has sufficient mental agility to be able to learn, and appreciate other ways of doing things. I'm not sure whether GW is so awful because of the presenters being ignorant, or whether it's the producers insisting on dumbing it down. I'd like to sit the presenters down over a pint and find out.
Presenters and producers both start with "P". That should give you all a clue.
Quite frankly, without this forum and a few associated web sites they wouldn't have anything to spout about at all.
I used to consider Gardeners World a comedy program but it is now reclassified as a tragedy.
Why dont they have some "real" (everyday folk) growers on there as a guest every week. I learn so much everytime I'm leaning on my fork chatting to the "old boys" and "mature ladies" on our lottie. In fact, I love it -although it has made me look at my lack of fitness not sure how they do it all somedays - guess they dont make em like they used to! ;)
Well I do watch GW just in case I can learn something but I agree it's gone downhill.
I'm afraid it was Monty Don leaving that did it for me, I thought he was pretty special.
A hard act to follow.
So saying I'm learning more about gardening from my allotment neighbour Old Bill and all the helpful answers I get from the folks on A4A.

Monty got the mickey taken a lot but I like some of his writing.
en ex is a has been, and a spurt is a drip under pressure! ;D
Experts are people who have studied more and more about less and less.
The biggest experts of all know absolutely everything about nothing.
On Gardeners Question time Radio4 you always have a panel of experts and more often than not you have different opinions to what ever question was asked, so who is right me I follow the Geoffrey Smith school of thought, :)
You will get better advice on here that watching any TV program. You only have to watch some of them pull a carrot out of the ground (that has just been put in before the start of the program) and how easily it comes out of the ground. They are just actors being paid to be gardeners

Gardeners world is not worth watching now a fashion show now that is not gardening one hour wasted last night watching it just to see if vegetable growing came on

[/quoteI hope you don't include the experts who design and build aircraft, cars, powerstations, etc etc etc
Geoff Hamilton, Bob Flowerdew and Anne Swithenbank, that's when GW was real.
They're doing a bit on me next month - have I sold out?
