Title: SPAM?
Post by: tim on May 08, 2009, 11:38:11
Can anyone say why, after years of batches of 30-60 throughout the day, we are now getting bursts of only 3-6 without knowingly having changed anything??

No complaint - just interested!

Is this on your personal e-mail? If so, proably new and improved filters?

Tim,

Could be a couple of things.  If you use Outlook and windows update then the filters may have been updated.  Most probably though it is likely to be upstream of you - your ISP not accepting traffic from certain domains or new blacklist being issued or even certain spammers lying low..  Most spam is generated by relatively few sources....

Yeah, spamming is noticeably down at the moment  :) :) :)
Long may it last.

Could someone explain this to Orange! They seem to let all the world and it's dog through. I've just started Windows Mail and got 25 spams. If we go away for a weekend there's usually several hundred of them waiting to be deleted when we get back!

Im with orange too and get loads of "spam"

I once phoned them and said "thankyou for highlighting the "spam" but could you just delete it at your end instead of letting it through?. They told me that what they consider "spam" may be different to what I consider "spam"so they give me the choice of opening or deleting!

I used to get dozens and dozens each day through my NTL account. I stopped using it for 6 months, this allowed my NTL mailbox to fill up to it's quote so anything new got bounced.

I don't get any now... For how long I don't know but it's nice while it lasts.
