All prepared to start strimming the new and very overgrown allotment - but after 5 minutes the 2 wire cord/"blades" on the strimmer (second-hand Lawnflite 2690) have each dramatically reduced in length and look like they need replacing. Has anyone ever replaced the cords on these - and can it be done by your average joe. Yes, I know a solid blade version would have been better - but if I knew where I was going to end up, I wouldnt have started from over there in the first place. Thanks for tips.
One of the unexpected pleasures of taking on an allotment is the various new skills you get to acquire. As this post got no takers, I took various pointed metallic tools in hand and thought I'd have a go meself. The plastic cover where the cutting cords are located is easy to take off with your hands. Remove the inner casing and you find a spool of wire inside. Simply (really!) unravel it a bit further, and stick the new ends out the gaps and put back the casing and cover. Now I accept that most/all of you must have thought the question too basic even for this forum. But just in case someone else ever asks the same thing, at least there's now an answer for them. If only getting rid of the couch grass was as easy!
