Title: Help! Aphids on my blackcurrant bushes
Post by: samela on May 01, 2009, 15:08:30
Help help help!  I went to my plot today and noticed my Ben Lomond blackcurrant bushes looking a bit poorly.  On inspection I found them covered in aphids  :'(  The leaves have started to curl round and turn a little yellow-ish.  There's still some fruit but a lot has fallen off. What can I do  :'(

Soapy water will kill them. The real question is, why are your plants weak enough to be vulnerable?

Oh dear, I only got them last year and they're not very big. We've spent soooo long building a big fruit cage and spent a fortune on netting to keep the birds out, I never thought about the little trouble makers!

Does any of the homemade solutions work? Rhubarb or nettles soaked in water for example?

rhubarb works for me in getting rid of aphids.
