and I forgot to mention the museum collection of horticultural machinery....
(and the Samosas 8) )
Looks great Saddad. Please do remind us nearer the date cos we really do want to come
Bump... ;D
I for one would love to come, but would have to negotiate being let off parenting duties .... It's one thing for the sprogs to trample MY seed beds and onions but I wouldn't inflict them on you!!
Bring them along, they get in free... with 175 plots they aren't likely to damage much of mine!! ;D
Will try to rouse OH ... and find somewhere to wear the sprogs out first. ;D ;D
Sometimes we just flop at the weekend as OH works in Crawley (near Gatwick) so is only home late Friday evening and goes again Sun eve. It's a luxury to just be a family together!
show off, just 'cos you've got on site toilets and samosas ;D
mind you, the club graciously allows people to use their toilets ::) ;D
booking a hotel in littleover so we have to come this time, yaaay ;D
Markeaton Park, on the ring road is an excellent place to wear them out in good weather Pippy.. junction of the A5111 and A 52 ( Ashbourne road)
Which one Manics... we might get to arranging a discount in a couple of years!! ;D
Looks lovely would like to come, but rather a long way.
littleover lodge, saddad, asked for a price, waiting for a response, no on line booking form..do you reccommend it?
Don't know it myself... saved me a "bump" :)
My daughters have their Tae Kwon Do grading that day or e would have been VERY tempted....it was the samosas that were the big lure :)
We are also open on the first Sunday in September (6th) less plants, more produce but still Samosaa... ;D
Bump Samosas... who put a and s so close together... ::)
Looks like there will be a dozen or so Sweet potato plants available on the day, if you're coming and you want them I can keep them back.. T+M bought so a £ each... ;)
Another bump ;D
Off to Trentham for the day so I'll bump this up now... ;D
Is there a way of making this stick... at the top... ???

I think your doing a great job at just that ;D ;D ;D
Hope you guys have a great day, just thinking about Samosas means I'm going to have to make some this weekend :D
If we are in Leicester that week-end would be very tempted.
Did I mention we are having an Open Day.... ;D
Bump... ::)
When was it again??????????? ;D
Oh Saddad you are naughty!!! ::)
If anyone hasn't been to this you MUST MUST MUST go!!!! It is the most fantastic site, full of character and a brilliant day out!!! Book the date now!!! Go on get your diary out and pencil it in you won't regret it!! Go on ......... ;D
thought I'd put this back on ;D

Thanks both, nearly missed it myself... :-[

I've heard there's an open day ;D

??? I can't remember, ;D
I think we are going to be there, hope that does not put anybody off!
We will be there if we get a reminder
;D ;D @ shirley
Did I mention we are having an Open Day and Plant sale on the 7th of June?
::)
Well why didn't you say so, nobody told me, I'm always the last to be told. ;D ;D ;D
You do get a closer look at DebP's plot (see gallery) and THAT SHED... never mind complaing about plastic chairs... what about the "Little House on the Prarie"... ;D

This one Small...
you may need to go back to page one to make any sense of it... ;D
Is this the site with the plastic chair, must see it. Where and when is it?? Save me a seat on it.
DebP has a chair (white plastic) outside that shed but we aren't THE white chair of the MOVE THE CHAIR thread...
DE23 6JH Littleover Lane Allotments Derby 7th June 11-5pm £3 to charity (NGS)
:)
PS There will be lots of White Plastic chairs scattered around it's a big site 175 plots in 12 acres...
Thanks Saddad, I'll be there. Always wanted to look round those allotments.....
I was only taking the p..s, always wanted to see a white chair on an allotment (have been reading other thread, and was only winding you up). Hope you have a lovely day, live in London so it is quite a way to travel without a car. I envy you, one day we may be able to move away into the countryside.
Derby is technically a city (made when in '77)... about 250,000 inhabs.. hardly the countryside but very close. :)
Ooh I would love to come but its a (almost) 300 mile round trip on my own... If a few more people are up for sharing travel costs/driving from Bristol then I might be swayed. It better be good though!! ;)
did I miss it? ;D
hiya, small, welcome to the site ;D
off to read about this chair
Glosterwomble usually comes... I know it's not actually near Bristol but it is in the right direction... :-\
thought I'd better bump this up again ;D
Thanks... I was giving it a rest while I was plugging the Nottingham events... :)
booked into the holiday inn for saturday night so we've got to come now ;D
Saddad-is it you in the pictures? Will you have a carnation in your button hole on the big day?
With the watering cans... yes. I'll not be wearing a carnation, I'll be the harrassed one behind the plant sales... :)
Quote from: saddad on May 22, 2009, 18:01:57
I'll be the harrassed one behind the plant sales... :)
Yes,I can vouch for that, from when wewent a couple of years ago. ;)
He'll be even more harrassed this year, my two kids are going to 'help' him out on the plant stall......he will need the patience of a saint and a large cattle prod!
I'll be split between the tea tent, getting the samosas in, and whatever else I'm tasked to do.... ;D Dunno if OH will come and talk about the shed all day like he did last time... ::)
has anyone there got a hop cutting, I'd like to buy one :)
Manicscouser, I am doing cuttings of golden hop and also layering it...if you want a bit say but will have o wait a bit
Only the bit some kind person on here sent to me... ::)
thanks, hector, yes, please, don't mind waiting ;D
not to worry, saddad, plenty of other 'wants' on my list ;D
Did I mention we were Opening on the 7th of June? :-X

10 days... I think you lot will be as glad as me when it's all over... ;D
9 days.... :o
8 days.....I'd better order the samosas and do some more tidying up! ;D
Don't forget to claim the cash... are we doing 100, 150 or 200? :o
Just had a wander round with the camera... iris and aquilegia mainly will post them when I get round to it.. I think the Aquilegia will have finished if it stays this hot... :(
I think its a great idea of yours to invite all the attending A4A members along to yours for a BBQ after the open day Saddad! ;) ;D ;D
You're welcome to hang around... but I don't know what OH will say about the barbie... :-X
This Sunday...
5 days to go...
;D
Bump... ;D
Nobody loves me... :'(

was just wondering how much of a loan I will have to take out to buy all the plants I want ;D
Do you want me to put the Purple podded to one side? :-X

our hotel is only 4 miles away, we're staying saturday night, Ha, ha ;D
Wish we could come Manics but the car went in for a service & can't get the work done on it until next week :'( :'( :'( so no long journeys. We will hope to get to the one in September.
Janet
There's produce to sell in september... and it looks like a bumper crop for damsons!! ;D
I hope the weather stays fine. It seems that it always rains when I want to go to an outside do. :'(
Metcheck says you are bringing the rain with you...
so it should be fine! :-X
Weather not looking very good at all......now where's me brolly!
We have a big marquee for the teas... can shelter under there if it's showery. :-X
Hating to be boring, where can we park, or do I need to be dropped? I think I only know the back entrance, will there be signs?
I'm hyperventilating with anticipation!
Small, I know the feeling. Their allotment site is sure to have a carpark cos they have log cabins for sheds.

do I need my wellies? ;D
bumpitty bump ;D
No wellies required, our avenues are stoned.... ( ;D ) a brolly might be a good idea though... :(
thanks for that :)
Would they be tree lined avenues or what ;D
Hedges, some trees... not quite the sweeping tree lined avenues of France. :)
Sound like i'm going to miss all the fun :'(.
We have another one on the 6th of September... but you're always welcome to make a personal visit! :)

::) well, we do grow some "unusual" plants... ::)
Have spent all day trying to sort out the plants into some sort of order, for the sale. Just know loads more will turn up tomorrow and on the day. Keeping my fingers crossed for the weather..... :-X
packed me bag, now..had a scare yesterday, our daughter was nearly taken to hospital, here we go, I thought ::)
anyway, she's much better now and her husband is off for the weekend with her so I CAN COME ;D
Good luck for your day. Will be thinking of you. Would really like to see other allotments. But it is just too far.
:o :o :o
where did all the bl**dy rain and wind come from?, june drop's nothing, hope all's well there , we're still coming, off in a bit for the meeting then traveling over, see you later ;D
just remembered, someone was going to do a rain dance, who was it, own up ;D
We still hope to be coming over tomorrow all being well.
You'd better... I've just been out putting up the tea-tent in the rain... RAM FM tried to tell everybody it was today.. ::)
OH has hoovered the shed.. just having a dry off.. then back to it.. :)
Aqualungs are de-rigeur... but not compulsory (yet!) :o
Forecast seems to be better for tomorrow. The sun came out here for a couple of hours but it's looking dark again now- just when I've got a car full of hops to take to the plot. Best get going! Good luck for tomorrow!
Manics have arrived safely....... ;D
I really hope the weather holds up for tomorrow.........it is completely dry now! :-\
Hope so. I'm coming if it stays dry. (hope that doesn't scupper it!)
Sally
Showery tomorrow with some sunshine so lets hope it stays that way or drier even!
doh.....just looked on local live, are you the allotments to the south of littleover lane, opposite foremark ave? I was thinking you were the visible ones from the ring road on warwick avenue? It's going to be a miracle if I find my way there. I'm better at growing than navigating!
yep, saved me a bump... :)

Our site is not visible from the main road, those are the Normanton allotments! When you go past those, you get to a roundabout, ( hopefully Saddad will have it signposted with NGS signs from there), go onto Stenson Road and turn right onto Littleover Lane, our site is on Littleover lane itself near the top of the hill.
Hope to see you all there soon! Weather is dry so far......fingers crossed! ;D
Yay!! Hubby says I deserve a nice day out of my choice (hes not into plants and probabaly will be bored) so expect me there.
Im so excited I cant wait to meet you all and buy up some unusual plants. ;D :D
Quotewhen you go past those
this only works if you have come round the ring road and down from the A38/Littleover side... if you are coming from the south west *( past the Showcase Cinema complex) when you see the allotments on the Ring-Road you have overshot..... :-X

My OH will also be around for part of the day and 'doesn't do plants'...but he can talk about sheds! ;D
Very jealous....hoping you have great weather :)
Just to add, if anyone from North West is going, I would happily pay for Green Tiger toms and collect from them at a later date :) I can't go as my daughters are in a T Kwon Do grading today.....they are practicing last minute Korean instructions as we speak.
We have Thunder and Lightening, heavy rain and plagues of frogs (ok I lied about the last bit.. so far!) The three sisters (Macbeth) would be right at home..
:o
Saddad, I bet it clears though. Was the same here yesterday and improved through the day....if I could I'd come...even through torrents :)
If it doesn't ease off the people on the bottom plots will be calling the coastguards... :o
I'll bring the frogs when I come, Draycott is seething with them.......
The thunder and lightening have gone from my side of Derby......Ive got my brolly anyway 8)
Is there an open day today, this must have past by me. ??? :-\ ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Yay! OH is going to sprog-watch (may take them to the swimming pool if he plucks up courage!) so I am coming!! :) Hope Manics leaves some plants :-* :-* See you all soon.
Have a good day all of you sorry I couldn't come :(
Disappointed. Managed to twist my ankle last night and don't think I could manage to hop down those stoned avenues :'(
Hope it goes well
Sally
Hector I PM Deb P earlier today to see if Manicscouser could pick one up for me. If we'd only thought sooner ::) ::) ::). They do look delish. We have a poorly car otherwise we would have gone >:( >:( >:(.
BTW I'm back OH worked out my password. He's a very clever boy.
Janet
Just got back from Derby. Twas lovely to meet Mal and Ray(manics) Deb P Saddad, Fork and Pippy. The samosa's were lovely. Bought 3 hosta's and a Millet. Saw the famous log cabin. Even sat on the settee. It's just a shame that the weather was so awful. The motorists were still flying along in spite of the heavy rain. We took our time so as to get there in one piece. Ower Tones feet were soaked and Rays waterproof pockets were full of water. It was well worth the effort.Lovely country allotment site. Will definitely go in September. Thanks Deb and Dave for the hospitality
I am green with envy Shirlton :'( :'( :'(.
Janet
Saddad and DebP worked so hard. Saddad was soaked standing on the plant stall.I bet he will have cold after getting wet It's such a shame when the weather spoils the day
It sounds a great day (apart from the weather!!!).
Wish I lived nearer - would love to come, from what I saw of the site in the earlier photos.
Any photos this time, for those of us stuck in the remotest south??
Just wanted to say thank you to everyone at the Littleover site and A4All for a lovely couple of hours at the site! :) I was open mouthed at DebP's plot and the fabulous shed - a tremendous adventure playground I bet :D!
Thank you Debs for the elephant garlic - I shall be nose in book to figure out how to grow it later ;D.
...and I hope someone got David a hot bath and some hot soup or someething afterwards as he was drenched. Hope he has warmed up anyway. Everyone made such a great effort.
Lovely to meet you all and see some wonderful plots - so interesting how every grower and site is so unique and artistic :). Loved those purple flowered beans too Debs!
Did the wet weather mean there won't be any pics? :(
We all want pictures and we want them NOW (or tomorrow or the next day).
Well I didn't take any...
got the camera as far as the shed... but it drowned... ::)
OH brought me hot soup once, but several coffees, and a complete change of clothes. It did stop raining at @3:30pm... the water is on for the bath, I've had a beer and it will be joined by another shortly!! :) The gills are healing over now..
This is not fair :-[ The only rain we have had for three weeks was a sharp shower this pm. The path is now dry just to tell you how much we had. I've tried alsorts, washing the windows, buying a new watering can but nothing works :'(
only got a couple, the camera was playing up ;D
Lovely to see such a variety of plots, it's a great site which is so well looked after. Good to put faces to some names, and I acquired some plants which I have absolutely no room for. Saddad, you were a complete hero on the plant stall, I hope sales picked up in the afternoon. I made loads of notes on interesting things as I walked round, just about readable once I'd squelched home! Hope for better weather in September......Thanks again for all your work.

Good to hear you all had a great day despite the weather and well done all for turning up/organising etc

sorry to go off topic but I have thise tiomatoes and couldnt find anything on them except this
"The yellow Banana Toes is also a
paste tomato. It's a must in my garden"
what does that mean and can it go outdoors?

Not one of mine....I did put in several big banana pepper plants though.
I really enjoyed meeting the A4A folk yesterday, at one time we had taken over the tea tent! Such a shame about the rain, my mum deserves a medal for driving up from London and back again just to support us bless her. She had a snooze in the shed in the afternoon as well! ;D
Deb's you should have said, mum could have given me a lift. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :-*
To a Spurs fan.....! :o :o :o :o :o :o :o ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) She's a saarf Londoner! She probably would have n'all bless her! ;D
Having a senior moment earlier, I did put some Orange Banana tomato plants in the sale, the fruit of which is so fragrant I have been known to delay eating them because I like the smell so much......honestly, what you end up admitting to on this forum...... ::) ;D
Hector, the fruits are quite solid, not watery/jelly like inside and therefore ideal for making tomato paste. They are cordon plants so quite tall, I confess I have not tried them outdoors but there is no reason not to although you run the same blight risks as any other variety in the UK.
one of my senior moments, deb..it is an orange banana ;D
thanks for the info
